Kulzer Technovit® Histology Embedding Accessories
Kulzer Technovit® Histology Embedding Accessories
Histoforms
Special embedding forms made of PTFE with a stainless steel bottom for heat dissipation. Developed to keep the temperature in the low ranges during polymerization. The special profile of the embedding forms allows for embedding that is easy to use and cut.
- Embedding material-saving volume
- Easy to cut form (Histoform S & Histoform N)
- Long life
- Easy to remove the embedding due to the conical form and the PTFE
- Excellent temperature dissipation through the stainless steel bottom
- Precise and easy fastening of the Histobloc support elements due to special opening
Histoform S (#813-801)
- Use with Kulzer Technovit® 7100/8100
- 10 cavities
- Approximate dimensions: 10 x 16 x 16.5mm (B x H x T)
- Block using Histobloc and Technovit® 3040 (see Figure 1 below)
Histoform Q (#813-802)
- Use with Kulzer Technovit® 7100/8100
- For holding large preparations
- 10 cavities
- Approximate dimensions: 20 x 16 x 10mm (B x H x T)
- Block using Histobloc and Technovit® 3040 (see Figure 1)
Histoform N (#813-803)
- Use with Kulzer Technovit® 9100 and Cover Films
- 4 cavities
- Approximate dimensions: 12 x 20 x 10mm (B x H x T)
- Block with Embedding Rings and Technovit® 3040
Cover Films
813-808
Polyethylene cover film is used for covering MMA (e.g., Kulzer Technovit® 9100) filled cavities in the embedding molds. The cover films cleanly seal mold cavities of Histoform N with the aluminum plates.
Size: 25 x 75mm
Embedding Rings
27169-1
Embeding Rings are used with Histoform N to mount to the embedded tissue block. Once the resin block has cured, the cover of Histoform N is removed. The etched writing surface on the ring is marked with an identification number and placed on top of the sample block. The embedding ring is then placed on top of the Histoform N and filled with Technovit® 3040 resin to mount the embedded block to the embedding ring.
Embedding rings are suitable for holding and identifying tissue sample blocks and fit well in microtome chuck adapters. Made of high-impact polystyrene.
Histobloc Support Elements
813-805
Histobloc Support Elements are adjustable to Histoforms S/Q, or for Histoform N.
Technovit® 3040
813-702
Technovit® 3040 is a quickly hardening two-component plastic with a methyl meth acrylate base (MMA). It is used to block or fasten embedded plastic specimens with the Histobloc or for socket embedding.
The chemical composition of Technovit® 3040 allows for a stable, permanent bond with the hardened block Technovit® 7100, Technovit® 8100 or Technovit® 9100.
Figure 1: Technovit® 3040 and Histobloc
Blocking: Once Technovit® 7100, 8100 or 9100 has hardened, the Histobloc support element is placed in the opening in the PTFE embedding form Histoform S/Q or Histoform N intended for this purpose. If Technovit® 8100 or 9100 was used for embedding, the Cover Film must be removed from the specimen before the Histobloc support element is put into place. For Histoform N, the aluminum lid is removed and the PE film is removed.
Mix Technovit 3040® until it is as viscous as possible (mixing ratio 2–3 volumetric parts of powder to 1 volumetric share of liquid). Pour the mixed material into the opening in the Histobloc.
Technovit® hardens and the Histobloc tightly bonds to the specimen in 5–10 minutes, depending on the room temperature.
The specimen can now be removed form the form and is ready to be sectioned. Through blocking with the very hard Technovit® 3040, the elastic Technovit® 7100 or Technovit 8100® is stabilized in such a way that even the thinnest sections are possible.
Clamp the specimen on the microtome: The square form of the Histobloc allows for the specimen to be directly clamped in the rotary microtome's specimen vise clamp system.
Technovit® Histoblade & Blade Holder
Technovit® Histoblade
(#813-813)
Blade Holder
(#813-812)
The Technovit® Histoblade is especially suited for cutting tissue samples embedded in HEMA (2-hydroethyl methacrylate) and materials with industrial applications with a section thickness of up to 1 micron.
- Heavy, stable design and improved durability
- Easy to use
- Good cutting results for up to 1 micron section thickness
- Optimized section quality
Technovit® Histoblade: 60 x 19 x 1mm, 2 r-mm holes
Blade Holder: 170 x 34 x 10mm
The knife angle when using the Technovit Histoblade® should be 9 for Microm/Thermo rotary microtomes. You need an R, SL or N blade holder. Contact your microtome provider if you have any questions.
